Welcome to Milk Thistle; Lactation Consultant & Infant Feeding Support in Victoria
I'm Ams Sweiger (they/them), a Registered Midwife, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and pediatric bodyworker based in Victoria, BC.
My practice brings together midwifery, lactation consultation, and pediatric bodywork to support families through pregnancy, infant feeding, and early parenthood.
I have a particular interest in complex feeding challenges, oral function, infant regulation, and providing accessible, trauma-informed, and gender-affirming care.
As a queer, agender, disabled settler, my experiences shape the way I approach healthcare. I believe families deserve respectful, collaborative care that honours their identities, strengths, lived experiences, and goals.
My work is grounded in evidence-informed practice, clinical curiosity, and a commitment to making care more accessible and affirming for diverse families.
When I'm not with clients you can find me along the Salish Sea with my service dog, Thimbleberry, searching for shells and enjoying the beauty of the island.

⚠️ Please Note Re: Scope of Care: While I am a Registered Midwife (RM), IBCLC, and CST practitioner, booking a consultation does not establish a primary care midwifery relationship. I act strictly as a specialized clinical consultant in this role. You must retain your own primary care provider (Midwife, GP, or OB) for your standard prenatal, birth, and routine postpartum medical management.

Training & Qualifications
Registered Midwife (RM)
As a Registered Midwife in British Columbia, I provide expert prenatal and postpartum care as a Primary Healthcare Provider. Midwives are trained specialists in low-risk pregnancy, birth, newborn care, and postpartum/neonatal health. We can order laboratory testing and ultrasounds, prescribe medications, make referrals to specialists, and provide comprehensive care for both parents and babies.
Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant is the highest internationally recognized credential in lactation and infant feeding care. Becoming an IBCLC requires extensive health sciences education, specialized lactation training, and at least 1,000 hours of supervised clinical lactation experience before sitting a comprehensive international board exam. Members must stay active, and update education yearly.
Craniosacral Therapist (CST)
Newborn CST is a exceptionally gentle, non-invasive bodywork that releases structural tensions and nervous system compression resulting from pregnancy or birth.
Using a micro-light touch—about the weight of a coin—a trained therapist helps settle the baby's system to support optimal feeding, structural alignment, and neurodevelopment.
Many feeding challenges are influenced not only by feeding technique, but also by how a baby's body moves, rests, and responds to the experience of birth and early life.
Infant bodywork can be particularly helpful:
-
For babies working through complex feeding challenges
-
Before and after tongue-tie assessment or release
-
To ease physical stiffness and body imbalances
-
To soothe colic, fussiness, and nervous system unrest
-
To deepen bonding through gentle, nurturing touch
My goal is not only to provide hands-on support, but also to teach families simple, practical techniques they can use at home. This allows many parents, including those without extended health coverage, to access bodywork-informed care and learn gentle techniques and comfort measures that support feeding, regulation, and overall wellbeing.
